The Good Old Leafs

So, this morning as I was in the shower, I was musing upon the state that the Leafs find themselves in, and how I should react to that. These Leafs have been bringing a state of confusion to the fan base for the entire season. Everybody new that they had pretty much no chance of winning the Cup, let alone making it into the playoffs. (I don't know why the Leafs fans should be happy about just making the playoffs. We Want THE CUP!!)
So, after the trade deadline, when I was hoping they'd continue the way they played the way they did during the regular season, thus allowing them a shot at the #1, or #2 pick. Unfortunately they were a "proud team" that wasn't going to "give up". Forgive me for asking, but where was this proud team at the beginning of the season. If they were this proud for the entire season, they'd be a shoo-in for the playoffs. Apparently for this group, it's a lot easier to play hard and play proud when nothing is expected of them.
So now, this morning the Leafs were only 4 points out of the playoff spot from the Bruins. They had a home at home against the Bruins and could, with a sweep, move up into a tie with Boston and bring them close to the playoffs. Here lies my big quandry. Do I cheer for the Leafs and risk them reverting back to what they were before, or do I just remain pessimistic and watch them probably sneak into the playoffs.
Well I made the decision to cheer for them. Think that there's a chance for them to redeem there season. They're in the place that they are if they lose, they won't get any better draft picks, so hey! This is my team! I'm a Leafs fan! The kids are playing better! Sundin's out, but Stajan, Steen and Wellwood are playing much better! We could make it! If we get into the playoffs, who knows what can happen! We're a proud team! We can do it!!!!!!!
They went into Boston and gave up 6 goals. They lost 6-2, they're now 6 points back, 5 games remaining. It's gonna be over. Each time I buy into the team, they manage to let me down. All I can say is, I hope the Oilers tease Eric just as much as the Leafs do to me. The only plus side for him is the better the Oilers do, the worse it is for Anahiem (they have their 1st rounder). Any way that the Oliers can screw with the Ducks, their fans are happy.

Thus is the life of a Leafs fan.
