Hockey Players in the mist

Here's a video of the ice rink I play in. As you can see the place gets just a little foggy when players are on the ice

Eternal Sunshine of the Sports Mind

There is nothing so optimistic as a sports fan. Each year I'm convinced of the fact that my Leafs, if they could just make it to the playoffs, could coax an extra amount of unrealized skill or vets could have one last gasp of glory and lead them to the cup... each year I'm wrong.
Each year I'm convinced that if the Jays could just put together a solid streak... their pitchers realizing their potential and the bats breaking out of long slumps... maybe, just maybe they could lead them to the playoffs... or a wildcard birth atleast... and each year I'm wrong.
Look at the Jays this year... sitting just 5.5 games out of the wildcard with only 2 hitters hitting over .270 and of them, only one hitting over .300. Our multi-million outfielder is barely out hitting our $300,000 2nd baseman. Our shortstop position hasn't been solid since the days of the second coming of Tony Fernandez (I'm including Manny Lee there as a solid contributer... that says alot about the state of our shortstop position). Now to be fair, they've done a great job with a cast of injured players, and Matt Stairs has added the rejuvenated vet card, but my mind still can't grasp that nothing is going to happen out of this. I still am deluding myself into contriving possibilities short of opposing teams getting swallowed up by the ground of how the Jays can make the playoffs.

Oh well, if they don't, there's always next year... and the Leafs season... and the Raptors season... the cycle continues

Hockey Night in Korea!

I just got back from playing some ice hockey here in Korea. This is the first time I got to play on ice since I got my hockey equipment shipped to me! The ice hockey rink is in the basement of the ice arena in my city. There are two rinks, one on the main floor for speed skating and figure-skating, and then the ice hockey rink is below.
Well, let me tell you, there are distinct disadvantages to playing in the bottom rink. The main one is that it takes a lot of heat to keep rinks cool, and a lot of that heat comes from the coils under the rink to freeze the water. (Think about how hot the back of your refrigerator can get) Anyways, since you've got that heat under there and then you have an ice-rink below it, well, you get heat from the rink above and the cool air from the rink below and you get fog!
It was so surreal skating around in a rink of fog. Halfway through our time playing it actually started raining in the rink because of all the condensation going on. Quite the experience.

On another note, this past week wasn't that good for me. I came down with tonsillitis. Luckily I went to a doctor when it started up so I didn't have any problems. When i went to a doctor last time for my earache, I tried to find a doctor that my friend recommended to me, but I got mixed up and accidentally went to an Oriental Medicine doctor. He diagnosed me without even looking in my ear and prescribed an hour of acupuncture, suction and electro therapy (in that order) first time I ever had anything like that done to my body. Strange experience (plus, the suction left huge circles on my back that lasted for about a week). It did nothing for my ear. That cleared up over time, and then went totally out of the way after taking my antibiotics for my tonsils!

Anyways, that was my week for you all. I hope to update this more.

I'm Baaack (finally)

Hi Everyone. Sorry it's been a long, long, long, long, long, long time since I've updated this blog.

I was planning on updating about 2 weeks ago, but then I had some stuff happen around here. Within a week I had a bad ear ache, my air conditioner broke and my laptop broke on me. My laptop harddrive started failing and the fan broke on it. It was working for about 2 or three days, but it would only work for 1 hr or 2.

So, with my vacation coming up, I was forced to choose between going to Vietnam or a new laptop. Well, I chose a new laptop. I was able to get to Seoul and bought a new HP Pavilion for about $850.
It's got an AMD 64 Turion x2 processor Nvidia graphics card, 1 gig of RAM, a 120 gig hard drive, a built in 1.3 MP webcam, but unfortunately it runs Vista on it. Let me say, I'm not too impressed with Vista. I like XP better.

Anyways, I what's been going on here is I've been teaching a lot here, my schedule's has changed for this month. The kids are on their summer vacation and so I'm starting teaching at 10:00am and I finish at 5:00, instead of from 3:00-9:50.

Anyways, I'll update more as it come up, but as of right now I'll leave you with some pictures of when I was at the beach for a mud festival and from around here.

Sorry, I was going to post some pictures, but this site is in korean and I can't get it up. So I'll post more later.

I'm Baaack (finally)
